UAE national trends in bariatric surgery: A decade of study

Intuitive Background: The number of Bariatric Surgery in Dubai surgeries and bariatric centers in the United States has significantly increased since the 1990s; Bariatric surgery trends have not been examined in any recent studies. Using real-world data, the purpose of this study is to examine the changes in bariatric surgery utilization by type between 2006 and 2015.


Methods: A cross-sectional examination of MarketScan information bases of secretly guaranteed recipients matured equivalent to or over 18 years, to survey the yearly occurrence pace of bariatric medical procedure kind of medical procedure from 2006 to 2015.


The significance of changes over time resulting from bariatric surgery was evaluated using linear regression analysis.

The sleeve gastrectomy saw a significant increase from (n = 596) 11 percent in 2006 to (n = 15,425) 70 percent in 2015 (P.001), whereas the Roux-en-Y surgery saw a decrease from (n = 10,129) 45 percent in 2010 to (n = 5074) 24 percent in 2015 (P.001).


Conclusion: In the first five years of the study, bariatric surgery utilization increased gradually, with steady rates in the final five years. Roux-en-Y and sleeve gastrectomy continue to be the most frequently performed bariatric procedures. When compared to open surgery, Bariatric Surgery in Dubai continues to be dominated by laparoscopic procedures.
